Appraiser FAQ
How do I get added to the AXIS
Panel?
AXIS appraisers come to AXIS by referral from lenders and
industry leaders. Appraisers may start this process by requesting
that two of their business contacts provide references to Axis
about the caliber of their work. When AXIS has received two
referrals for an appraiser, an AXIS representative then contacts
the appraiser to discuss their experience, qualifications, and the
AXIS philosophy.
If there is a match, the appraiser is invited to submit
documentation for follow-up:
- resume
- E&O (minimum $500,000 coverage)
- license - Appraisers must be at the second or third
licensing tier (certified or general) and have a minimum of five
years of experience. AXIS checks the appraiser's standing with the
licensing board.
- two reference checks are completed.
- two recent work samples are reviewed by Axis staff
appraisers.
Finally, a second interview with one of AXIS' lead appraisers is
extended to the appraiser to determine the appraiser's specific
geographic expertise.
Appraisers who successfully complete the screening process are
added to the AXIS Panel via their independent appraisal company and
orders are placed with and payments are made to the appraiser's
company.
Do I have to pay AXIS to
join?
At this time, AXIS does not charge a membership or registration
fee. There are some software delivery system requirements that AXIS
uses to reduce AXIS overhead in order to pass as much of the fee to
the appraiser as possible. This cost varies, depending upon the
appraiser's software and technology and AXIS works with each
appraiser to create a cost effective delivery solution.
Please note that ASC fees as described in the Frank- Dodd bill may
require an annual registration fee.
What does AXIS
pay?
AXIS is transparent. The AXIS fee schedule is posted on our
website and AXIS Affiliate Appraisers earn approximately 80% of
that fee. AXIS Panel Appraisers earn approximately 75% of the
fee. Appraisers fee schedules are also posted.
Axis also has a competitive Staff Appraiser compensation package
with health benefits and vacation pay. Appraisers regularly
tell AXIS that the costs AXIS assumes is reasonable for this fee
split.
What am I agreeing to when I join the AXIS
Panel?
As a member of the AXIS Panel, you agree to provide fully
documented and analyzed opinions of value with clearly articulated
knowledge of the marketplace in which the appraised property
resides. Appraisers run E&O software prior to submission and
are responsive to AXIS' lenders questions and requests.
What is Affiliate Status and how do I get
there?
Panel Appraisers who consistently deliver quality appraisal
products with responsive turn times are invited to become
Affiliates. It is AXIS' goal that all appraisers become
Affiliates since each appraiser invited to join AXIS is highly
qualified within their marketplace.
How does AXIS determine my
territory?
AXIS believes that each market is unique and only a highly
qualified appraiser who truly knows and lives that market can
provide a fully supported and accurate opinion of value within that
market. Therefore, AXIS limits each appraiser to narrowly defined
territories that are determined through conversation with each
appraiser regarding their specific qualifications for that market.
It is a time intensive process, but fundamental to AXIS'
philosophy.
